May is Allergy Awareness Month! One in thirteen children has food allergies—that’s about two in every U.S. classroom. Everyone from the classroom teacher to school nurse to the cafeteria staff plays a role in creating a safe environment for students with food allergies. We also need our families support in teaching our children about not only their own allergies, but how to keep their family and friends with allergies safe too. If your child has an allergy, or develops a new allergy, please be sure to notify the school immediately.
Below are some resources to further bring awareness:
Multicultural Week
Students worked together in our Kindness Cafe to complete our school-wide project to highlight the uniqueness of each of our students!
CHESS CLUB FINALE
This year Grade 2 students from Ms. Twomey and Mrs. Appleman's class participated in Chess Club, the science of the mind. The club met every Tuesday from 7:45a.m.- 8:45a.m. with Ms. Arleo as their moderator. The students learned all about the game of chess and how to be better problem solvers. The club concluded on May 21st with a chess celebration! There were prizes, certificates, treats and even guest players. Ms. McCabe's (grade 3 teacher) daughter was invited to the final chess club celebration as a surprise mystery GUEST PLAYER! A good time was had by all and the lifelong love of chess was cultivated.
