Literacy Night

Lawrence Primary School's annual Literacy Night took place on Wednesday, October 25th. Each year this event supports our district focus of partnering with our school community to support our children in becoming lifelong readers! This year, our focus for the event surrounded the concepts in the book I Promise by Lebron James and how we can make promises that help us achieve our Wildly Important Goals.

Throughout the night, families gathered to participate in three literacy based activities that can be transferred to the home environment to support the school-home connection. Below are some pictures and a brief description of each activity. Also, you will find a link to the book I Promise in case you would like to watch (or re-watch) with your child at home.

Reading Can Form Connections! Students were able to select a comfy place to read  a book of their choice with their family member. To continue to instill the joy of reading and build our children's at home libraries, students were able to select books on their reading level (with support from staff and  guardians) that were donated by the Book Fairies.

Reading Can Be Fun! Students learned how much fun reading can be with children's board games! Students were supported by staff to play Scrabble Jr., Boggle, Sight Word Bingo and other literacy based board games to see how we can play together and learn together. These games are provided to our students within the school building to allow them to practice their literacy skills with their friends in a fun, collaborative way!

I Promise to ..... Families listened to the story I Promise by Lebron James and wrote their own promises to reach their goals. Each student took a Polaroid picture in our photo booth to take home to remember to work on goals both at school and at home.
