In honor of Fire Safety Week, October 4–10, Lawrence Primary School welcomed special visitors who helped students learn important lessons about fire prevention and safety!

Firefighter Vincent Timmons, and Firefighter Charlie visited LPS for an engaging assembly, teaching students the Five P’s of Fire Safety: Prevent, Protect, Practice, Plan, and People. Two student volunteers helped demonstrate what to do if a fire alarm sounds while sleeping: roll out of bed, crawl low along the floor, and feel the door before opening it. Students learned that if the door feels cool, they can carefully open it to exit, but if it feels hot, they should keep it closed, go to a window if it is safe to do so, and call out for help so firefighters can find them.

The learning continued with a visit from the Inwood Fire Department! Firefighters presented the tools and equipment found on their firetruck, explaining how each helps them respond to emergencies. Students were thrilled to explore the firetruck, sit inside, and see firsthand the important work firefighters do to keep our community safe.

Ms. Simpson’s class also celebrated through hands-on Fire Safety Week centers! Students made a firetruck-themed snack, explored fire safety sensory bins, and practiced letter formation while reinforcing their learning through fun, interactive activities.
